According to the listing by Kumara Wilcoxon of Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty, the property offers “a combination of two distinct contemporary buildings designed by two different architects, Berkeley’s Rael san Fratello and Tucson’s DUST”.
Listing information shows one of the structures has an open-plan layout with a living area and kitchen, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto an enclosed courtyard. There is also a private sculpture garden, as well as a bedroom, bathroom and a covered patio off the kitchen.
“Organic materials contrast with industrial elements, with exposed Adobe brick walls mixed with concrete, aluminium and glass,” according to the listing.

Solar panels power both structures, and there are outdoor patios, water features and native landscaping throughout the property. There is also an outdoor shower, the listing photo shows.
Marfa, between the Davis Mountains and Big Bend National Park, is home to Judd’s minimalist art installation. The artist established the Chinati Foundation, a 340-acre former army base, in 1978, according to its website. He renovated historic buildings and created site-specific installations. The foundation opened to the public in 1987.Judd died in 1994 at the age of 65.
The town, which has become a popular tourist destination for art-loving Instagram users, is reported to be named after Marfa from Dostoevsky’s “Brothers Karamazov,” according to the town’s travel website, Visit Marfa. The wife of a railroad executive came up with the name because she happened to be reading the novel when the town was founded in 1883.
